Cooler Master’s Master Set MS 121 Review: A Budget-Friendly RGB Keyboard-Mouse Combo

Posted on January 30, 2022May 22, 2022 By Chris Evans No Comments on Cooler Master’s Master Set MS 121 Review: A Budget-Friendly RGB Keyboard-Mouse Combo

Cooler Master Master Set MS 121 Review: We’ll be looking at Cooler Master’s MasterSet MS121 keyboard-mouse combo set today. For $79.99, this bundle is available only at Best Buy. Cooler Master does, however, have the MasterSet MS120, which can be purchased for just under $70 on Amazon. In a moment, I’ll go over the distinctions between the two sets.

Considering the A3050 sensor, the MasterSet MS120 mouse surprised me with its amazing sensor performance. We detected a couple of modest surges, but they weren’t significant enough to alter the ratings. The performance of the mouse is consistent across all CPI levels, except 3,500, where it loses tracking at speeds above 1.8 m/s.

As a result, it’s best to play on the other CPI settings, where it manages to track even at speeds higher than 2 m/s. Angle snapping kicks in at 1,500 and 3,500 CPI, however, we didn’t observe any acceleration on the mouse.

An Overview of the Cooler Master MasterSet’s MS121 Specs:

Both the keyboard and mouse that come with the MasterSet MS121 are RGB compatible.

  • Cooler Master chose to try to replicate the feel of Cherry MX Blue switches with this keyboard.
  • The keyboard’s keys have a 50 million click lifespan. They also have a 3.8mm travel distance and an actuation point of 1.8mm.
  • This keyboard also has 26 anti-ghosting keys to ensure that all of your keystrokes are recorded.
  • The keyboard has per-key RGB illumination as well as nine distinct preset LED settings and effects for RGB lighting.

  • OMROM 10M microswitches are also included in the mouse.

The Cooler Master Set MS121 vs the MS120: What’s the Difference?

Cooler Master

The keyboards of the MS121 and MS120 are identical. The mouse is the sole difference between the two sets.

  • The MS120 features a larger claw grip mouse, but the MS121 features a smaller and lighter ambidextrous mouse.
  • The MS120 mouse also includes three zones of RGB lighting, however, the MS121 mouse only has two zones of RGB lighting.

MasterSet MS 121 Unboxing

There isn’t much to talk about when it comes to unwrapping a keyboard or mouse, but we’ll go through the essentials of the MS121’s unboxing experience quickly.

  1. Cooler Master’s packaging is appealing, and it elevates this low-cost keyboard combo to a higher level.
  2. The inside packaging is straightforward, with sufficient cardboard filler to keep the keyboard secure. There’s also a plastic mold to protect the keyboard.
  3. To keep the mouse in place, it is wrapped in a plastic bag and enclosed by a styrofoam-type mold.
  4. Aside from that, there’s a tiny manual that explains the mouse’s capabilities and functionality.

In the end, there isn’t much to the MS121’s packaging, and it only takes a minute or two to get everything unboxed.

My Experience with the MS 121’s Keyboard

Features and Accessories

The mouse, in particular, isn’t supposed to be a powerhouse in terms of features. It has all of the necessary functions for gaming and typing. Cooler Master’s unique mem-mechanical switch design is the keyboard’s top feature. Previously, the tactile component of the switch was located on the base in the shape of a tactile dome. When you pressed the key, the plunger pushed on the dome, giving you a tactile sensation. The plunger’s tactile component has been moved to the plunger itself, and the spring has been put underneath it. If you remove the keycap, you can see the tactile feedback component in operation, which is almost identical to the design in mechanical switches.

Build Quality and Design

The MasterSet MS120 keyboard is well-made, and it is based on the Master Keys Lite L Combo RGB keyboard’s design. The switch design underneath is the only difference. Membrane keyboards often last less than 10 million keystrokes. The Master Keys Lite L keyboard included a 2016 mem-mechanical switch with a 12-million-keystroke lifespan. The switch on the MasterSet MS120 is said to survive 50 million keystrokes due to changes in design and the addition of more components. That’s a big boast, considering it’s comparable to the lifespan of actual mechanical switches. A white plastic covering beneath the switches ensures that the backlighting appears brighter.

Performance

MS120 keyboard

The revised switch design on the MasterSet MS120 brings the keyboard closer to a tactile and clicky switch like the Cherry MX Blue. Our experience was great throughout, whether it was gaming or typing.

MS120 mouse

We weren’t expecting much from this mouse after testing the A3050 optical sensor on earlier mice. However, it appears like the calibration in this mouse has been done fairly successfully.

Overall Feel on the Keyboard

The keyboard on the MS121 is without a doubt my favorite element of this setup. That’s not because the mouse is awful; rather, it’s because of the value the keyboard provides for the money.

The fact that it performs a good job of imitating mechanical switches, as well as all of its RGB possibilities, shows that it delivers on its promise. I could easily see this keyboard retailing for $50 on its own, so with the mouse included, it’s right on par with the amount you pay.

The MasterSet MS121 from Cooler Master provides incredible value for the money.

The Cooler Master MasterSet MS121 keyboard-mouse combo is an excellent choice for gamers on a budget who want a high-quality keyboard and mouse(Combo).

Sure, there are several less expensive keyboards and mice that provide similar experiences. However, the MS121 outperforms the competition in terms of features.
